2015 Activities

The first of three St Andrews Legacy events in 2015 began in May with a gathering together of eight representatives of the USA, Canada, Australia and the UK. The week, an informal tussle between America and the Commonwealth, saw the veterans visit Crail, St Andrews, Aberdeen and Machrihanish.

The final day of the trip featured a round on the Old Course and a meeting with five-time Open champion Tom Watson who watched everyone play eighteen and graciously posed for photographs afterwards. One more unforgettable episdode in the story of St Andrews Legacy.

The July event combined a week of golfing activities with a week attending The Open championship and meeting some of the top professionals past and present, from Gary Player to Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth.

The veterans, five Canadians, four Grenadier Guards and four Scots, had the opportunity to visit Craighead Links at Crail, The Duke’s St Andrews, the PGA National Academy course at Gleneagles and The Kittocks at Fairmont St Andrews. Thanks to the R&A, St Andrews Legacy had eighteen representatives in attendance at the Gala Dinner held on the Saturday evening of The Open.

In August eight veterans from Canada, the USA and Scotland met and shared their life experiences. As one participant put it; “golf is just the bonus!” Thanks to Crail Golfing Society, The Duke’s Course, Fairmont St Andrews, Royal Aberdeen, St Andrews Links and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club for their support.
